Adding a new Durability Score- Psychic
Adding a new Durability Score- Psychic posted in Rules & Errata forum comment posted by Myridian In the game Aliens and Asteroids, They have a Morale check that would work nicely (I think) for Alternity
You have morale points equal to your Will and take "damage" to your morale as various bad things happen. Your current total morale is the score you use for the morale check. You check when the bad thing happens and if you save, you are good, if you fail the save you lose points, take a penalty to all actions (shaken), and have to make a check each round until you succeed or reach 0 Morale, at which point you are panicked and fight/flight/freeze. Subsequent failures lose points, but do not give additional penalties. A success removes the shaken condition as you recover your wits. An Amazing result on a check removes the shaken condition and regains d6 morale points.
I might go with:
Ord: no longer need to make morale checks this encounter, Good: Recover from Shaken, Amazing; recover from Shaken and regain d6 morale points
There are rules on recovering, ranging from drinking with the squad to talking with a counselor, these are activities to undertake, not insta recovery like with stun points. This could add to the roleplaying aspect.
I'd add that a critical failure on the initial check garners a +2 penalty as you are "freaked" vs just shaken.
I like the term "Morale", and the downward spiral of the shrinking morale score is intriguing. I would let Resolve-mental provide a modifier to the morale check. Or maybe if you have Resolve you use your resolve score as the number of moral points? I guess you could drop the morale score and just make resolve checks with increasing penalties, but I like the score shrinking as the points disappear. This also has the advantage of only affecting the moral score without across the board penalties after you are shaken.
