Hi, I recently found out about Paranoia through Seth Skorkowsky and instantly fell in love with the premise. I was so inspired that I photo-bashed a couple of the Propaganda Posters from the Happiness Is Mandatory game and social media posts. I've included some links for you to preview before you decide to download it yourself, as well as the raw images themselves, just in case you wanted to use them on their own. Hello friends!

I'm moving to Korea and have to slim down my life. I have a really neat collection of books but don't really know their worth. Trying to save as much as I can for the trip, but have no idea their worth. Figured this is perfect subreddit to get a good estimation.

XP & 1st edition books

How would you describe each edition's mechanics in one or two sentences?

So, I have GM'd a Paranoia one shot through pure GM fiat and using the rules for Justified Anxiety (https://imgur.com/gallery/cM43g6U), with a crew of Troubleshooters completely new to RPGs in general. I took the lore, tone and adventure (Quantum Traitor IIRC) from Paranoia XP.

With mostly the same crew I started a DnD campaign and we did a one shot of Cthulu Dark.

Some of the players have expressed interest in playing another Paranoia one shot (We've started having scheduling issues with the D&D Campaign and decided to play every two weeks, where every four weeks it's a "mandatory" campaign session, and the off session is a one shot if we don't have the full party)

So now I'm thinking, since the players have a bit more experience with RPGs now, we can try to up the ante in terms of rules depth. However, I don't want to go overboard and make stuff too complicated for what will be a one off thing, and since there are several editions, I feel probably one of them should come close to what I'm looking for.

So my question, and TLDR:

How would you describe the main mechanic in each Paranoia Edition in a sentence or two?

For example, you could describe D&D5 as "Roll 1d20 + One of six attributes + your skill in whatever you are doing, compare to DC.", or Vampire as "Roll as many D10s as your relevant attribute + skill and compare with objective, sometimes you require more than one succes".

Which edition has the lowest time investment to learn the rules and play straight (not necesarily Straight)?

Paranoia Related Academic Essay

Hello, beloved citizens of the great and wonderful Alpha Complex! This is my first time posting here and I'm in need of a bit of a help.

I am attempting to write an academic essay about the anti-utopian (even though Alpha Complex is a perfect utopia thanks to Friend Computer) TTRPGs and most specifically, Paranoia. However, I learned about Paranoia painfully late (just over two months ago) and I want to be thorough with my paper and not miss anything crucial. So, my question is, what is something I absolutely should mention? What are some great sources to write about the worldbuilding and the history of the RPG? (I'm going to be using rulebooks of many editions mainly but I am not sure they alone will suffice)

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and good daycycles!
