Quick update on PPE

Hi folks! Someone on Facebook asked for an update on Paranoia Perfect Edition, so why not post that here as well?

PPE is on schedule! We will run a Kickstarter as before, and it should launch around August-ish. I'll definitely let y'all know when that date firms up! The corebook and a companion book are finished; they still need editing, but I'll get that done in a few weeks. Currently, we are writing missions and supplements that will either get used as stretch goals and/or fill out the product line.

Now, for a mini FAQ:

IS IT TERRORISTS OR COMMUNISTS: Both, but leaning towards Commies. Personally, I'm with RCE in that "terrorist" works better than "communist" these days. That said, Commies as a term has such a rich history with this game. We'll still use both interchangeably, but the classic "Commie Mutant Traitor" is back in full effect.

WHAT'S UP WITH CARDS: Cards are now optional. PPE will not be creating any new cards, partially because there are so many out there already, so new products will not come with new cards. That said, I don't see anything in the new rules that interferes with using the cards, so groups that love 'em can still use 'em.

WILL RCE STUFF WORK WITH PPE: The new edition is more of a revision than a full reboot, so RCE content will be easy to run in PPE even on the fly. We are also including conversions for 1st Ed., 2nd Ed, XP and 25th Anniversary content. It's not like GMs can't wing it with their old game books, but some prefer more direction than that.

WHAT WILL THE ART BE LIKE: Unknown at this point. I don't even know who the artist(s) will be. That's typical for me since I'm a freelancer for text, not layout or artwork. I've asked Mongoose to send over a sample when one is ready, but I'm unsure when that will happen.

WILL THERE BE A QUICKSTART VERSION: Not that I know of. That said, we have created two cheat sheets (one for the rules, another for the setting) that fit on the front & back of one sheet of paper. This way, GMs can print copies and hand them out to players at cons, one-shots with the group, or for anyone new to Paranoia.

Where can I find the Deliver a Letter mission?

Back in 2010 I found a Paranoia RPG website where there was a 1 page session where the players were asked to deliver a letter from one side of the hall to another. Complete with secret society missions that ranged from Destroy Letter, Replace Letter with another one, Read Letter, etc...

Anyone remember what website had this? Is it accessible via wayback or is it reprinted somewhere else?

IWe played Paranoia for the first time, it went different than I expected.

Some weeks ago I finally got the chance to try out Paranoia (the Red Clearance Edition Box). I read through the material and decided to run the first mission (the one with the Red Dessert Topping). My only prior experience was the Geek & Sundry live action play, and that seemed like tons of silly fun.

I expected the players to be backstabbing and ratting each out to Friend Computer, but instead they bonded together and no Player lost any clones.

-I decided to do a character creation instead of using the pregens. I like the way players can give each other bad stats and change their descriptive adjectives. However everyone played nice and cooperative, coordinating who got what stat. Flipping the adjective was fun tho
-Here we got our first rules question I hope someone can cleaer up: what happens If Player A chooses a skill Player B already has? Does the negaitve skill value added to his skill?
-Players start out as Infrared clones with a red clone supervisor. The Players hated her and basically bonded together through this. In the end, with some clever and crazy combinations of their action cards, convinced FC she's a traitor and then pummeled her to death with their mops

-Next rules questions: If the GM never rolls dice, how do NPCs attack? Do they just hit and deal damage automatically or is there a way for PCs to avoid this?

-Players became hestitant to talk to FC because they feared that anything they said would be used against them. They were also unsure how they could act out their secret societiy roles, with FC seemingly seeing everything that happens in Alpha Complex. In general, I think they had a hard time to grasp the kafkaesque nature of FC and Alpha Complex

PArt of this unexpected outcome was probably my fault. Maybe I should have more explicitly stated that intra-party conflict is normal and expected in this game, and explained more how to "correctly" interact with the Computer. Altough, I'm unsure now myself how antagonistic, or helpful the Computer *should* be played. All in all I think by the end the players seemed to have a blast but I got a bit hesitant how to approach this game and have not yet run the follow-up mission.

Hello Paranoia community!I've got a Paranoia collection which I am selling to a friends friend and was wonder what I should ask for it? They are all in mint condition, except the GM Screen was unwrapped, but still in mint condition as it was never used.

Reading the rules for the combat over and over in the Player’s and GM’s guides. For the most part I suppose I have it but there just leaves a couple things just left less understood.

Reactions: I read that they can apply to NPCs, other players, and even yourself.
Is this meaning strictly the one card you put facedown (it can be used for actions or reactions) or is this about using reaction cards beyond the card you placed facedown, in other words, a reaction card left in your hand? So I can play an action card facedown and also during the countdown I can play other cards in my hand?

Play reaction cards on basic actions? Play reaction on someone doing a basic action at count 0?

Seems to me that one card gets played per round and it is either an action or reaction. The other cards in the hand stay out of it during this round. But maybe this is wrong, it would seem awfully wild to just toss out reaction cards left and right in one round.

Some of reaction cards seem bizarre as reactions like ‘Everything looks like a Nail’. As a reaction how would this go down? Someone does an action and then someone plays this card. It says ‘you spot a tool that’s useful to the action’ is that ‘you’ the player who played this card?

Does the GM count down from 10 to 0 while players declare initiative numbers and then at the end the players resolve actions or do players resolve actions as they go down the count?

Your Cerebral Cortech is Malfunctioning

A thing that I enjoy - and my players joyously fear - are "Cortech Malfunctions". The first time i used this I needed to settle an argument between two clones trying to convince the Computer that the other is lying, especially by telling FC that it should review their feed recording, so i had a voice announce:

(Happy, helpful voice): Your Cerebral Cortech seems to be malfunctioning and needs to be checked out by maintenance division. Please stand by...

Me (less helpful voice): a large clamp drops from the ceiling and closes around your head. A small, metal claw comes out, backs up, and then rams through the front of your skull, grabs your Cortech, and yanks it out.

Computer: your cerebral cortech will be returned after diagnosis. If you feel that your Cortech has been removed in error, you will receive one treason star. Thank you, and have a happy day!

Me: your body drops to the floor in a heap. A scrubot emerges from the wall and solemnly grinds you into a fine paste.

Player: I take it I'm not getting that back from maintenance...

It's a handy way to get things moving again when arguments start slowing down the game.

Mission discussion

So this Sunday I am running my first Paranoia with a group that has never played and don’t even know they will be playing it. I decided to just play the mission in the first box. I was going to just do the first one but I am thinking of stringing along all three into one. No sure if we can fly through all three in five or six hours. Anyone tried these and have any advice. The first part seems easy to run, I feel comfortable with that. The next two I would like some insight into how others did them.
