Faction Turn 2 doesn't completely resolve anything, but continues some dramatic changes over a month. |
I won't set up
Stars Without Number factions here. Some options look interesting.
An
older article might generate the right scale of events, if it seems to cover enough ground. I want to look at their frequency.
The campaign area, without adding it up, has a population in the ballpark of current Earth, though communications are certainly worse.
Traveller subsectors tend to have more by default, but I don't think are comparable in a couple of ways.
A set of newsworthy events on Wikipedia's front page currently has four entries, back to about a week ago, and three ongoing stories (but could have mentioned others). I think I'd want d6 events per week with 50% chance for following developments for a story. I'd take up adjustments for transmission of the information, either by drivespace comm relays if the event and current campaign location both have them, or by
info traders, to backdate entries. Locations of events might need some work, partly using population (not in the same way for natural disasters, entries 31-36, though they're mostly newsworthy and relevant to local polities if they affect people). The setting document has 101 pages and systems with more stuff take up two to three pages, which raises a tempting possibility, at least for a starting point for a random walk. (Page 101 is an uninhabited system.)
