High Weirdness on Gamma Terra
High Weirdness on Gamma Terra posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland Altering the physical traits of a handful or more substances is yet another way to show how strange things have become. It could affect the materials' boiling/melting points, reflectivity, refraction, magnetism, electrical resistance, or transparency/translucency.
I was thinking of the refraction index for air and changing that a few degrees should have an effect on the size and placement of eyes of species that have adapted to it. Even PSH should have a different facial appearance from their ancestors, otherwise they would always suffer a penalty as they can't see properly.
Transparency does not have to apply to just visible light. Some elements are transparent to infrared yet are opaque to visible light. Applying that to say fiberglass turns buildings made with fiberglass walls into ovens in direct sunlight- which could be useful for species that are adapted to such conditions.
Wood with a low level of electrical resistance could be used to make alternate circuits, though their flammability makes that dangerous if the power supply is poorly controlled.
