Dao create stained glass that weakens resolve, alters alignment, plants suggestions or even turn those with the right mindset into more dao.
Some oozes found in the deep Chthonic Lands become highly intelligent if immersed in water (fresh or salt). They have a frustrating life- keep their thoughts and stay in the water or hunt on land and hope to return to the water some day to get back their lost minds.
Mirrors that reflect rays, sprays, gazes, beams and similar effects are uncommon and usually created by medusas and beholders. A few have found ways to create mirrors that modify the effect, including increasing the range.
Some magical plants can summon allies when harmed, including critters that can heal them. A few instead transform their foes into the needed allies.
There are monsters that can spread lycanthropy even though they are not weres themselves. A stupid, simple example- red dragons can create werewolves with their claws. These lycanthropes are their slaves but only in animal or hybrid form.
Some powerful lycanthropes (individuals not species) can semi-project their hybrid and animal forms. The range is at least 30' (and usually much farther) and the humanoid body is destroyed in the process.
Monsters protect their stored food with things as varied as foam, resin, poison, traps and curses. Detect Safe Food is a vital spell before chowing down.
Salt lions are terrestrial big cats that must consume seawater to reproduce. They bud kittens at a rate of 2d4 per year. As each is a parthenogenic female, a single salt lion can found a new population as long as there is access to the ocean.
One species of plant people wanders far and wide for new places to colonize. In the places where they create their garden cities the plants modify one or a few local critters to make effective pollinators. A few of the known cities include humanoids but most are animals.
Some modified or replaced dragon breath weapons:
- Reds create elemental fire that continues to burn for a century, even if submerged.
- Blues have lightning that moves between those wearing metal in a similar manner to Plant Door. This increases the range but it also misses anything without metal.
- Greens create a gas that turns Flesh to Plants and Metal to Wood, thus adding to the forest flora. The cloud is persistent and moves like Cloudkill, dispersing hours later.
- Blacks create a fluid that turns Metal to Fungus and adds mutations to fleshy beings. Horrible defective mutations that are otherwise treated as curses rather than heritable traits.
- Whites create a gas that causes big sky addiction. The victims can do nothing but stare at what is above them.
