Arcane casters have the option of being tested by spirits. Success results in new spells (i.e. new to the setting) while failure results in community service to the spirits. Failure to do one's service and lose the ability to cast any spell.
Dweomerblast blinds those currently detecting magic. It is a spell and a monstrous power.
At least one city has strong ties to the inner planes via hired phase spiders. The arachnids get paid in food and toys and in exchange move people and goods to and from the ethereal plane.
