Freshwater oceans
Freshwater oceans posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland Technology has been altering and reorganizing the planet's crust from before the Ancient Age (going back to the first dug mines) but came into its own during the Shadow Age. Some caves were protected but otherwise all of it has been changed.
There are huge vaults that have populations of fungi and worms that mutated from the crust fauna with entrances long blocked off. A few have populations of human-sized beings in the millions.
There are veins of minerals new to the universe that have yet to be exposed to any sort of light. And that might or might not be a good thing as some are photoreactive.
There are intrusions into the mantle that were used for research and well protected military bases (at least until phase rockets were developed). They are treasure hoards waiting for someone to find them.
There are machines that were designed to control earthquakes. Now they cause major quakes because they don't understand what happened to the planet.
And then there are the shipyards that were created by many factions and nations that were mostly in mid construction during the Final Wars. They weren't fast enough to escape the Cataclysm, though some were completed during the centuries of the Gamma Age.
