Ancient Artifacts
Ancient Artifacts posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland Some "ray guns" are actually industrial tools that have been repurposed. Here are a few ideas:
- One that phases objects to allow other matter to pass through. In the factory this was used to place small devices within sealed compartments of larger ones. The effect doesn't last long, a phase or two, and if the object is overlapping other solids or liquids when it reverts, the object chemically decomposes and the other material is usually unharmed (depending on what the decomposition products are).
- One that alters an object's structure to make it pliable, like taffy or modeling clay. This lasts for a few minutes and allows easy material reshaping.
- One that affects an object's ability to absorb kinetic damage, reducing the effects of falls and other impacts. This is permanent.
- One that alters an object's exterior chemistry and make it a one use detector. When it encounters X, the object's color or form changes. The ray was designed not as a detector but so that the product makes a desired change easily in fabrication.
- One that adds mobility to an object. It may gain wheels, legs or ball bearings or may be changed into a wheel or sphere.
- One that turns objects into radiation mirrors. Gamma radiation is a form of light and the Ancients were able to design mirrors for it. This may or may not affect exotic forms of radiation.
- One that quantum entangles pairs of objects. When one is altered, the other has the same changes. The technology was used for communication and now freaks out some people of the Gamma Age as they watch untouched items make changes in real time.
- One that adds psychic instructions to objects, allowing all users to have a form of postcognition and understand how the item(s) the ray was designed for function. It will be less useful if the ray is applied to other objects.
