Creature Design Philosophy
Creature Design Philosophy posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland In the plants and locations threads I posted the idea of steppe plants that alter the soil so that it reflects lighting, thus electrifying the air above. Taking farther, these places are dangerous to many species but also possibly important to others, and not just to those that dwell in them all the time. Migratory organisms could use these places to recharge their mutations and/or cyberware. If there are enough of these electrified places, then migratory routes could be built around them. Critters constantly moving back and forth to live in the non-static lands or seas and recharge where they can.
It can get a lot more complicated if the plants that create this habitat are mobile and likewise migrate or if the electrified fields change in strength over the course of a year. In the latter case there could groupings of different species that can sense field strength and will only visit when it is of a specific level. Higher will fry them and lower will be useless for recharging at the speed they need.
Going from there are those that evolve batteries to lengthen the time between visits, other species that prey on them for flesh and juice, and those who hunt them to replace power cells.
Now I really wish I had come up with this ages ago. New ecosystems are hard to imagine for me.
