I have to go through and tweak things, probably cut/paste/tweak for the PHB on damage.
I imagine I'll need quite a few examples, things like find mutilated body, take 1 stress
A byakhee maybe d4-1 Fear?
Should I have people make resolve checks to affect the attacker's -intimidation check? That would slow the loss down.
I don't necessarily want it as a straight up conversion of stun/wound/mortal, but I do need to work on the recovery aspect of things.
I'll also be taking a page (1/3 a page) about environmental effects, like complete darkness and your flashlight cuts out, you seem to be separated from your group, Resolve check or lose d4-2 stress.
Or should this just be modifiers and the environment "makes the attack" or base it off the BBEG's -intimidate skill check?
This seems a fairly easy way to cover the bases, allow for a progression - a gathering sense of horror, and give it the creeping dread of a death spiral.
I do worry about too many penalties between this and physical damage. But it gives a gritty level that might be in effect if you are incorporating this at all.
For space opera I wouldn't use it, for bug hunts, definitely.
