Gamma Age technology posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland I have mentioned webspinners on the forum before. They are small insects that look like ants and have silk glands in their forelegs. Here are a few formulae that intelligent webspinners incorporate into their silk:
- Crushed acidic rock turns their protective web hydrophilic. The interior remains humid even in drought conditions. As long as there is enough excess, they will sell clean water to others.
- Aluminum salts increase the silk's lifespan in saltwater. They also treat the nets with well decayed flesh to add a chemical lure to boost the number of fish caught.
- Adding the feathers and fur from their yak/swan hybrid flocks makes for insulating silk that is used to make blankets and winter clothing. The animals are difficult to keep but the rewards are worthwhile.
- Combining with attercop silk makes the webspinner webs extra springy. They use it to make hand and siege weapons similar to slingshots. One of their favored forms of ammunition are shed sep teeth treated with nitric acid- they combust upon impact.
