Energy Shields

This is for Star Wars blasters but the concept of the different noble gasses coloring energy fields is an interesting one that can be used for a variety of settings and technologies. Even better the reasoning behind the game mechanic differences between them makes sense, not a result of GM fiat. |
I actually have an idea for plasma shielding that comes in three colors, with each having different properties. They all act like the particle screen in Warships, but the armor bonuses differ.
Red shielding has the highest particle density and lowest temperature, allowing it to absorb more energy and is more effective against energy weapons.
Blue shielding has the lowest density and highest temperature, allowing it ablate materials that pass through it while also causing uneven thermal expansion of solid materials, so it is better at dealing with projectiles.
Yellow/orange shielding is the middle ground.
At PL7, when it is introduced under Fusion Technologies, the shield is preset to a single color. At PL8, two new forms exist, one being a variable shield that can be set when activated (it does take time to change it, and it has to be shut down to do so), while a new Violet shield introduces overlapping layers of each color (much higher power draw than the others, and more expensive, but it gives a better boost to all armor categories).
