I haven't included vertical displacement so far (or in an earlier use) despite the GMG's good advice. So far, it shouldn't invalidate anything I've said in system descriptions. But what about nebulae? They should occur in three dimensions too |
I'll try a roll of 3d20 - 3d20, which should (and it might do me good to write a short bit of code to test it) give me a broad band centred on zero, with outliers as far as +57 and -57. That should match the Verge map in the
Campaign Setting, though I think there was a displacement in the 60s in the detailed map in the
System Guide to Aegis. Some locations have required relationships to each other rather than to zero elevation, making it not impossible (though unlikely) I could get there.

If I haven't mentioned it anywhere, I've been using an approximation for Pythagoras' : the longer distance plus one-third the shorter distance. Doing it accurately for a couple of relationships confirms it's not far off, perhaps less accurate as the triangle gets skinnier. I won't change past references, but was considering a table for some key distances as a campaign aid and plan to calculate those properly.
Do I want basic geometry in a
resource? I think there's no reason not to, if it seems helpful, perhaps also bringing forward an
addition sitting in particular conversion notes, but it's not urgent.
