I tried something new- descriptive terms mixed with Story Cubes and got some decent results:
Lodestones can be altered to attract other metals. Dwarves and kobolds have been known to use lodestone marbles to find gold and other valuable metals. Just toss them and watch where they collect.
The source of one cursed river is a bleeding demon staked on a mountain top. It suffers knowing its blood will bring woe to many mortals.
A falling star's passage allows everyone to see the emotional states of animals. Beast tamers want what survived from the impact.
Giant lizard eggs that are handled too much by (humans, elves, hobgoblins, whatever) hatch into basilisks.
A bewildering gift granted by the royals of one culture is a noble title that only applies when the recipient is at home (literally in their house). It comes with a staff of spirits or monsters that are obedient but only when the character has the title. It is thought that the royals have some fey blood.
Sprites are the only land fey that try to explore the upper sky and do so rarely. Their wings are burned off and a few of the fallers are saved by local entities. The sprites are given frog-like legs that allow them to "swim" through air and slowly return home.
Epic bards can use their music to permanently alter the land and climate so that people can settle (or evil bards can drive them from their homes). These characters are found in setting where there are places on the map that are unformed, places of chaos that prevent people from living there.
The Earth Mother absorbed some space monsters that attacked her. They are buried deep and now she allows people to dig wells to tap their power, though not mining as that may allow them to awaken and harm her and the world at large.
