I wonder if another topic can help me, distantly, with segments of the population and their medical facilities making checks. |
Very distantly, I think. I don't know if I'll need a concept of zones in a region of colonies numerous and mostly small enough to describe developments for the whole of each location. They'll nominally make checks, but it might help me more to find (from others' work) proportions expected to pass or fail checks.
Other adaptations of RPG rules to mass simulations, firstly combat, seem to get reasonable results by deriving statistics by the majority (probably mode, technically) of a group that's regarded as suitable to treat as a unit. Human populations, then, from the
GMG, typically have a Constitution of 9 or lower for more than 50% of their number and 9 is also the most common score.
I can use dice probability tables (I'm not sure now where the first Excel sheet I have was posted, but I think the one in Resources is at least related) without rolling, to find what percentage of the population should succeed. Maybe I can vary the result, more for small populations and less for larger ones. edit: I think the law of large numbers will be stronger (cinematic use of statistics?) than say +/- d20% for CL 1, d12% for CL 2, d8% for CL 3, d6% for CL 4, d4% CL 5, d3% for a larger population - or they probably should be some sort of proportions of the expected percentage.
