Stealing creatures from other games posted in Species, Aliens, Xenoforms & Monsters forum comment posted by derek_holland I recently purchased Osprey's Bug Hunts for 5 bucks and I think I over paid. The reviewers on Amazon must be either fakes or had no exposure to existing media on alien monsters. The book describes three primary and a few secondary species and then some tech and weapons for hunting them.
The first alien is a knock off of Alien but these critters have boiling blood, making them completely different.
The second and third split up some ideas from Starship Troopers, including the second film (mind control).
The secondary critters are just animals based on real world species.
There was one idea out of the whole book that I thought was interesting enough to comment on. The soldier caste of the second species carries a large biotech plasma rifle. What makes it interesting is there is an inference that the body is just a tool for an intelligent rifle.
Other than that one idea the only thing I found worthwhile is the art. It definitely isn't low grade crude that some publishers try to pass off as "artistic".
If you can get it for a quarter or maybe a dollar, it might be worth it to you.
