Dragons provide magical stability and defense against planar invaders. If all of one world were slain, banished or otherwise leave all casters would have wild magic and the invaders will make their play sooner or later.
Meenlocks have an interesting method of reproduction (rituals used on one specific race) that could be used for others. This is in place of biological reproduction, not in addition to.
- Trolls transform humans into more of their number. That means whenever trolls raid a human community some will be taken for food and others to replace fallen trolls. No survivors takes on a rather different meaning.
- Aranea are actually phantons. The spiders do not prey on the lemur people but it appears that way to the phantons, thus their terror at being captured. How this came about isn't well known but is likely to be the result of a curse.
- Eblis are the next step for lizard people. This adds yet another reason why other races distrust or outright hate lizards- eblis are a greater threat and their numbers can grow quickly if the lizard tribes are large.
- Dwarves fear dark creepers for anyone captured becomes the enemy.
- Treants are made from elf druids. This is a willing process and takes a few months, time enough for growth and transformation from flesh to wood.
- The dirty secret of gnomes is that they are kobolds given new form (or is that some form of redemption?). No outsider knows this and they try not to show disappointment when kobolds are slain.
- Dragon turtles use their ritual on crab people to increase their numbers. This doesn't happen often as they are large, solitary creatures. When it does, a whole tribe of crabs willingly undergoes the transformation and then spread out across the oceans. It is best not to be anywhere near that rebirthing location- they get very hungry in the process.
- Genies are made from all sorts of humanoids (so breaking the rule of one to one). Those who show the love of the element and the right personality traits are given the opportunity to become immortal wish-givers. Trans-elementalism?
