I had a notion for an interesting possible reading of the name, though it's certainly not what the Traveller writers had in mind.
.. And it would fit rather well if they ran a long way from the Thuldans early in the war, also accompanied by Gigantor labourers and a few Fomalhauti modern-human benefactors - the latter haven't survived. |
It feels a bit dissonant, reading
Traveller sources with my intended parallels. The other game's Floriani have a distinct identity.
The Gigantor genotype developed from an extinct primate related to orangutans, reconstructed in the middle of Earth-based estimates at a bit less than 2.5 metres tall. Their teeth and digestion support herbivory, preferring a mix of high-energy foods such as seeds, tubers and plant shoots. They enjoy sugar but acidic juices easily corrode their teeth, so they seldom eat fruit. Their nature is patient, steady and determined. They have been engineered for fully bipedal gait (splicing some anatomical traits in their legs and feet from other mammalian lines to support their mass) and an intelligence capable of using complex tools and electronic systems, though their capacity for abstract thought remains dim at best. Their
features also were made more similar to their intended counterparts with shorter hair and more visible skin, both black.
They are fully capable of reading, writing and understanding human languages, but vocalise only with a howl to warn others of danger, not even in extreme pain or violent combat for their own part. They typically use (and their partner species in combined communities learn from childhood) standard sign languages.
Gigantors have maximum Strength and Constitution of 16 and maximum Dexterity and Intelligence of 12. They calculate Durability using 1.5 times their Constitution. Free broad skills are Athletics, Stamina, Knowledge, Technical Science, Awareness and Interaction. Gigantors have proved to show some mindwalking potential.
