Locations of Gamma Terra posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland The Scar is the setting of one of the Eternal Wars. These are places where someone, possibly the Created or Red Death, have fanned the flames of hatred and are supplying arms and equipment to both sides in the hopes to exterminate them both.
The Scar was a river and is now a massive field of mud populated by very tough critters. The opposing forces are the Knights and Iron Society, both of which are hard at work with Restorationist slaves to invent new weapons that will kill the monsters and their opponents. The results are gruesome tools of mass death, such as nanobombs that twist their victims into spiky terrain meant to stop most vehicles.
Fortunately for everyone, neither side is willing to use nukes. At least so far- the war has been going on for 80 years.
When the war ends it should only take a few years before greenfolk are able to reclaim the area and rebuild the river.
