Aberrations are not healed by positive or negative energy. They have their own- corrupted, channeled from the Far Realm.
Some gods of undeath have found a way to kill nonbeliever necromancers and keep them from poaching their corpses. Graveyards blessed by their clerics drain the life energy from such arcane casters and use it to animate most or all of the bodies interned.
Ethereal filchers steal magic items as each added to their nests strengthen them in some way.
Elemental Barding creates elemental mounts that protect their riders as well as have attacks not found in mortal creatures.
A form of incantation (spells anyone can use no matter their class) reskins combat. The caster and magic itself have avatars with stats and they duel in a demi-plane of magic that can be just about anything in terms of terrain and traits. If the character wins, reality is reshaped to whatever they wanted more or less (i.e. the spell is cast with some minor complications or variations). If magic wins, the character's world changes for the worse. Here are a few examples:
- They become indebted to the genie mob. Getting out may be laborious or very expensive.
- Ally or allies vanish. They become neutral, foes or actually disappear from the setting.
- Magic item or items are downgraded. Yup, the Staff of Power is now a Wand of Fire.
- There is a time skip for the character, forcing them into a future they may not understand. If this is common, they may be called Jacks.
- Evil is unleashed and wants the character's head. This may be a fairly weak evil, such as a giant, or something very unpleasant, like a beholder or lich. It depends on how powerful the spell the character wished to cast.
