Thunder beasts, the demonic grazers found in the original Monster Manual II, are fast breeders for their size and are surprisingly natural for natives of the Abyss. Someone has sold a breeding group to the natives of the Isle of Dread and now they are a primary source of food for the dinosaurs, dragons and other large monsters found on those islands. They are also quickly driving other large herbivores to extinction, though not only by consuming the same vegetation but also that the mortal animals find the beasts frightening. A single thunder beast can cause a herd of wild oxen to fling themselves off a cliff just by grazing nearby. Why carnivores aren't affected, who knows.
Clerics of gods of justice can "turn" forged artwork, coins, jewelry and even signatures and turn them into junk or smudges.
One sort of artifact I have not read of is a container for other artifacts. It would have reality bending powers of its own plus gain more with each artifact or relic it stores.
Hazards can have triggers much like traps or lycanthropes. It really sucks when they have delays in an attempt to zap multiple targets.
The seas claim all who drown, turning them into fish or whales. The stronger the personality, the larger the resulting animal. Getting them back requires Reincarnate/Reincarnation spells, though the rolls and their results are still used.
One of the most valuable fruits in the world isn't that rare. It is a giant vegetable monster that can wipe the floor with weaker characters. Even after one is slain, the best methods to free the fruit take a century. There are cultures that specialize in this but most don't want to take the time and resources to get into harvesting.
