Alien Artifacts
Alien Artifacts (Examples, Concepts, Q&A) posted in Equipment, Cybertech and Weapons forum comment posted by derek_holland I was skimming through Warehouse 23 (the book) for the first time in years and found one artifact that I had forgotten about that has some interesting elements- the blood rifle. This device takes a small sample of the wielder's blood and then magically amplifies it, creating a cone of life energy that can toast foes. Every 20 shots does physical and fatigue damage to the wielder. A few ideas in Alternity terms that modify this:
- The blast ignores non-living armor. Not once living, currently living, which then takes half of the damage that is calculated after the damage roll.
- The blast contains all the diseases currently afflicting the wielder. So this can be an actual cancer gun. Multiple uses may cure the wielder, though this takes more shots than most people can survive (i.e. they have to heal one or more times between using the gun). How many shots it takes is up to the GM. Those struck must make a Stamina- endurance roll to avoid contracting the illnesses.
- Every shot inflicts one Stun on the wielder (which rolls over as normal). This is more aggressive than the GURPS version but it also has the previous advantage, thus making it more desirable than just a weapon.
- It does not inflict Fatigue damage. The S/W/M is enough.
- Those who die from the rifle's cone of death rise as zombie variants that have been drained of life energy. These horrors attack living things and will collapse into a pile of sludge once they have obtained as many Mortal points as they had in life.
Now that is an unpleasant weapon that can work in most settings with FX or superscience.
