- Explosives, the next step in defense of the colony. Many of these do do with their own biochemical products.
- Traps that draw power from cells or functioning conduits. EMP that causes glitches, magnetic fields that keep machines at bay, plasma grids that heat the nest and keep intruders out, etc.
- Cold storage. They have found a way to extend the lifespan of cached food.
- Towers. These may keep ground predators at bay or allow for poor fliers to have a much easier time taking off and landing.
- Road signs. They have acquired genetic material from road crew androids and now build signs that may or may not be accurate.
- Tunnels with spacial gaps. These insects have found a way to "remove space" and thus can travel much faster than even flight. Some intelligent species have toll roads that are very popular as they bypass oceans, monster infest mountains, Knight controlled lands, etc.
- Mechanical hands. Their own limbs are functional but they just aren't hands. Having machines with flexible digits allow the insects to manipulate objects at a much finer scale.
- Radios. These insects have the knack for long range communication. Many sell their services or occasionally functional radio receivers.
- Materials processors. The nests of unintelligent insects that create these machines are popular for raiding or ranching. A handful of colonies can increase the industrial output of a settlement to the point of making it a local economic power.
- Uplift formula. The insects' can chemically create a substance that increases intelligence. This isn't magic and many recipients die as their brains are crosswired. The results are inherited and many new people in the wastes may be the results of these animals purposefully or randomly creating sapiency.
