Mutant Crawl Classics
Mutant Crawl Classics posted in Gamma World forum comment posted by derek_holland The third volume of Unnatural Selections arrived yesterday and I read most of it. It is about twice as long as volume 2 and a little shorter than 1, so a lot of mostly new critters*. The new categories of generic creatures are amphibians, fish, sea monsters and scorpions. Many new kinds of critters in categories from prior volumes include blobs**, crustaceans, fungus, insects, mammals, mollusks, and snakes.
Of the machines there are three new categories, mecha***, animated idols (sessile machines that are worshiped for various reasons). And there are some more deadly and service robots**** as well.
Of the things that aren't really monsters there are two food items that mutate their consumers for a short amount of time and a fungus that is so rubbery that bullets bounce off of them.
And of the rest of the creatures, they run from the tragic (clone blanks that suffer as they learn of the world) to the pulp (fish men survivors of Atlantis, fungus men, and serpent-men) to the Saturday morning cartoon (crystal people vs magma people) as well as more typical hybrids and weirdos.
All in all, worth every penny. The only negative thing is the lack of page numbers. The first two have them.
* The exception is a reprint of the paradox hound from volume one to fix its stat block. Oddly, it is not included in the TOC.
** A couple are very interesting, including one that can capture and store beams from mutations and artifacts.
*** Standard, gestalt like Voltron, and Jaeger-like from Pacific Rim. The last has rules on accidental environmental damage.
**** Most terrifying is the therapist that can hypnotize their "patients" into believing just about anything.
