Fantastic Stuff
Fantastic Stuff posted in Fantasy and Progress Level 3 forum comment posted by derek_holland I am not a fan of the changes to astral searchers from AD&D to Planescape. I prefer the alien minds that can have any agenda to automatically hostile ones. In fact I think they could be a source for novel spells, those that can only be learned as disembodied spirits and used after a dead body is possessed and brought back to life. Living casters can research variants of those spells, but only at higher (spell) levels.
When the drow retreated to the depths they discovered they still needed forests. They now live among mushroom forests and if they are separated for longer than a month, lose their innate spells.
Cyclopes a different branch of giant from the base six species. Their ancestors gave up an eye for elemental powers. All of them have a primary element, two secondary elements and a weak element- which does not have to be the opposite of the primary. If my math checks out, that means there can be 24 different kinds of cyclops.
In animist settings, does the consumption of spell material components free or destroy those spirits?
What monsters can grant supernatural power to their inhuman worshipers?
Some druids love making gifts for animals that enjoy play. Seeing wolf pups with teddy bears is a sign of a druid grove nearby.
Alternate forms of agriculture:
- Graveyards can be used to grow edible fungi. These grow on the graves or the stones.
- Basement-dwelling Earth swine allow the growth of novel crops in the dark. These are favored by manor houses that use their unique foods to for influence.
- Fortean weather summoned by rituals. These have seasonal variants such as frozen fish in Winter and corn kernels in Summer.
- Dreams of crops can be harvested but the process weakens the dreamers. Each person can support as many as a dozen families with proper training.
- Topiary fruit trees that grow for a week to be harvested and then shrink to normal size until the next harvest.
- Sea water turned into food vial alchemy. At least that is what the government tells the people...
